Originally from South Texas, Roger Garza earned an undergraduate degree in clarinet bassoon performance from Texas A&M University Kingsville, where he studied with Dr. Nancy King Sanders, as well as a masters degree in clarinet performance from Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore Maryland, where he studied with Ed Palanker of the Baltimore Symphony.
Upon finishing school, he started his music performance career in the United States Army band program, spending several years stationed in southeastern Virginia before finally winning a position as a clarinetist in The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” in Washington, D.C.
